Mariangela Shares Details About Her Single “Luz Azul” & How TikTok Has Helped Her Music Career

For many, music is a pathway to something new — a way of finding and learning more about

oneself. This is no different for Mexican-born singer, songwriter, and performer, Mariangela. The

singer, who’s from Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, with a jarocho background and has lived in Texas

for most of her life, pulls inspiration from the world around her to create music that stems from a

place of raw, honest unfiltered truth. Growing up Mariangela was surrounded by a myriad of

musical influences from both Latino and Anglo acts due to the love for music that her parents

instilled in her. 

Despite being surrounded by the popular alternative music of Monterrey, she was able to grow

up with the musically rich sounds of Veracruz (where her father was born). Because of these

many influences, she was able to immerse herself in several different genres like folk,

classic/grunge rock, pop, Mexican folklore, boleros, country, indie music and even regional

Mexican regional. This in mind, Mariangela gravitated to artists and bands like Joan Baez, Bob

Dylan, Natalia Lafourcade, Stevie Nicks, Mazzy Star, Natalia Jiménez, Pink Floyd, and Pearl

Jam.

Mariangela spends a good part of the day listening to new and old music alike — absorbing and

learning from it in what she describes as “her search for the perfect tune or lyric.” She also

further immerses herself in the art of poetry, reading from the classics in both Spanish and

English like Jaime Sabines and Mario Benedetti, among others.

Mariangela reveals, “I love to create music that brings peace to people and makes them feel less

alone.” Through her music, she seeks to write in a way that paints a scenic and emotionally

moving picture that will resonate with global audiences everywhere in a way that relevantly

encapsulates emotions that many have felt throughout their lives. The vibe and essence she

would like to create with her music are ones that focus on a collection of folksy and understated

sounds that will be layered under honest, confident, and emotionally moving lyrics that connect

with nature and everything that surrounds her. 

Lupe LLerenas recently caught up with Mariangela who talked about her music career and her

most recent single “Luz Azul,” which has a special meaning to her. She also shared how posting

her music on social media, especially TikTok has contributed to her musical growth.

She describes her music as a way for her to experiment with different genres and merge them

into a way that creates a universe where she and her fans can connect on a deeper level through

their collective love of music.
