Five Takeaways From ‘Mufasa: The Lion King’

After much anticipation, Mufasa: The Lion King is finally in theaters!

Exploring the unlikely rise of the beloved king of the Pride Lands, “Mufasa: The Lion King” enlists Rafiki to relay the legend of Mufasa to young lion cub Kiara, daughter of Simba and Nala, with Timon and Pumbaa lending their signature schtick. Told in flashbacks, the story introduces Mufasa as an orphaned cub, lost and alone, until he meets a sympathetic lion named Taka—the heir to a royal bloodline.

The film features an all-star roster of talent, including Aaron Pierre, Kelvin Harrison Jr., John Kani, Tiffany Boone, Kagiso Lediga, Preston Nyman, Mads Mikkelsen, Thandiwe Newton, Lennie James, Anika Noni Rose, Keith David, Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner, Donald Glover, Blue Ivy Carter, Braelyn Rankins, Theo Somolu, Folake Olowofoyeku, Joanna Jones, Thuso Mbedu, Sheila Atim, Abdul Salis, Dominique Jennings and Beyoncé Knowles-Carter.

Blending live-action filmmaking techniques with photoreal computer-generated imagery, the all-new feature film is directed by Barry Jenkins. Featuring original songs by award-winning songwriter Lin-Manuel Miranda, original score by Dave Metzger, and additional music and vocal performances by Lebo M.

We watched an early screening of Mufasa: The Lion King earlier this week, and the film was very enjoyable. Mufasa: The Lion King gave me everything I wanted from this story. The story was beautiful, with details coming back by the end, connections between characters being established, and the characters' origins being fascinating. Barry Jenkins has created an incredible story filled with spirit and love, making one question one's destiny. Lin Manuel Miranda delivers some fantastic songs, many are still playing in my head. The visuals were top-notch, with a level of detail that cannot be understated, with every animal appearing as realistic as can be. The level of characters' facial expressions is captivating and enjoyable to watch. If you're a fan of The Lion King, whether it be the 1994 original or the 2019 live-action adaptation, this film is worth seeing.
